Version 18.A01 of the PAI/O Driver for z/OS was shipped on December 1st, 2009. This new release provides a variety of new features and enhancements that substantially increase the ease of use of the PAI/O Driver for z/OS and the data it collects. The new program features and enhancements include:
the minimum operating system level for the execution of the PAI/O Driver for z/OS is z/OS 1.8,
the PAI/O Driver for z/OS now utilizes a direct interface to VSAM Media Manager. This replaces the standard VSAM interface employed by Version 17 of the product. This new support eliminates most of the restrictions and limitations that existed in Version 17,,
VSAM processing options now available include direct control of the
storage subsystem caching mode, Control Interval chaining for random
writes, standalone random writes with chaining, writes that employ update-in-place
operations rather than format writes, intermixing of sequential read
and write operations, and the use of I/O completion exit to provide
more precise service time measurements,
support.
support for simulated VSAM files using EXCP (previously referred to as XSAM and ZSAM) has been removed,
support for SAS 9.1 and MXG 27.09.
This release also provides a significantly enhanced version of the profiling software. The new program features and enhancements include:
VSAM dataset types are now supported by the profiling component. The generation of VSAM datasets allows the generated workloads to exploit media manager functionality,
the SPLITSEQ control statement has been introduced to control the characteristics of the test sequential datasets produced by the GENERATR process,
the VSAMDATA control statement has been introduced to control the dataset types produced by the GENERATR process. The options are just EXCP test datasets, EXCP and VSAM test datasets, or EXCP, VSAM, and VSAM EF test datasets. To employ VSAM EF test datasets, the underlying test devices must be system managed and a guaranteed space storage class must be employed for the test datasets,
to reduce output volume, reports for the aggregate SSID *ALL* are not produced if only a single SSID is selected for analysis,
the Blocksize Analysis Report has been enhanced with the addition of SSCH counts and dataset types,
the Narrative Workload Description Report has been enhanced with notations for any override values employed for the creation of the workload, and
to address potential confusion with the SEQWRITE control statement in the JCLMAGIC process, the SEQWRITE control statement has retired.
